concrete, abstract, collective, count/mass

abstract nouns
describe intangible items e.g. love, freedom
collective nouns
refer to groups of people, animals or things
count/mass
count nouns: able to be counted and have a plural
mass nouns: cannot be counted
types of adjectives
attributive adjectives and predicative adjectives, comparative adjectives and superlative adjectives
attributive adjectives
Usually before the noun and it modifies the verb
predicative adjective
comes after linking verb
types of verbs
lexical verbs, auxiliary verbs and copula verbs

main verbs
the primary verb in a sentence that shows the action or state of being of a subject
auxiliary verbs
verbs that support main verbs:
primary auxiliary verbs: is/was, had/has
modal verbs: indicate likelihood of verb happening
copular: linking verbs, connects the subject of a sentence to a noun or an adjective. Links distinct elements in a sentence together
stative verbs vs dynamic verbs
stative: express states of being or processes in which there is no obvious action
dynamic: express actions
transitive verbs
Must be followed by a direct object to make sense. The direct object will be a noun phrase.
intransitive verbs
do not need a direct object to complete their meaning. Unlike other types of verbs, intransitives can end sentences

have both a direct and an indirect object

interrogative adverbs
negative adverbs
degree adverbs

modify verbs, giving details of the circumstances

introduce a sentence that asks a question, when, where why
