What is meant by Lexis?
words
What are noun?
Naming words such as people, places, things and feelings
What are the different types of nouns?
Common nouns (concrete and abstract) and Proper nouns
What are verbs?
They express actions, states or sensations. They are the most obligatory part of clauses. They can also function alone.
What are adjectives?
Words which modify or describe a pronoun or noun.
What are adverbs?
They modify other lexis.
What age do babies start to produce recognisable words?
Around 12 months
What is a holophrase?
Single words that carry a more complex meaning
What did Katherine Nelson (1973) find out about a baby’s first 50 words?
She classified there first words as:
1. Naming things of people; ball, daddy, milk
2. Actions/Events; down ,more, up
3. Describing/modifying things; dirty, nice
4. Personal words: hi, bye-bye
