Purpose: to decrease the risk of exposure of the individual or community to disease
PRIMARY PREVENTION
Applied to generally healthy people to keep them
well.
PRIMARY PREVENTION
is the process of enabling individuals and communities increase control over the determinants of health and thereby improve their health -WHO
Health promotion
● Involves activities designed to protect patients or other members of the public from actual or potential health threats and their harmful consequence
DISEASE PREVENTION
Purpose: minimizing severity of disease, shortening disease duration, bring about cure, prevent or reduce complications.
SECONDARY PREVENTIONS
Focus: Early identification of health problems and prompt interventions to alleviate health problems (high risk individuals)
SECONDARY PREVENTIONS
● Identification of a disease or disorders at its early stages of progression.
EARLY DIAGNOSIS
● Quick or fast treatment given to patients to minimize the severity of disease, and to preserve health.
PROMPT TREATMENT
Purpose: to restore the patient to an optimum level of functioning
TERTIARY PREVENTIONS
Behavior motivated by the desire to increase well-being and actualize human health potential.
HEALTH PROMOTION
Behavior motivated by desire to actively avoid illness, detect it early or maintain functioning within the constraints of illness
DISEASE PREVENTION
- The person strives to prevent relapse by integrating newly adopted behaviors into his of her lifestyles.
- The person no longer experiences temptation to return to previous unhealthy behaviors
HEALTH MAINTENANCE
● Defined as care that tends to overcome disease, and promote recovery.
● Cures a disease or condition
CURATIVE
● Emphasizes the importance of assisting the clients
to function adequately in the physical, mental, socio-economic and vocational areas of their lives
