Levels Of Organization Of Lining Things Flashcards
Atom
Smallest and most fundamental units of matter
Molecule
Chemical structure consisting of at least two atoms held together by a chemical bond.
Macromolecules
Large molecules that are typically formed by combining smaller unites called monomers.
Organelles
Small structures that exist within cells and perform specialized functions
Cell
The smallest fundamental unit of structure and function in living organisms.
Tissue
Groups of similar cells carrying out the same function.
Organ
A collection of tissues grouped together based on a common function (in animals and plants)
Organ system
A higher level of organization that consist of functionally related organs.
Organisms
Individual living entities
Population
All the individuals of species living within a specific area collectively
Community
The set of population inhabiting a particular area
Ecosystem
Consist of all the living things in a particular area together with the abiotic or non-living, parts of that environment such as nitrogen in the soil or rainwater.
Biosphere
The collection of all ecosystems and it represents the zone of life on earth.
Phylogenetic tree
A diagram showing the evolutionary relationships among the biological species based on similarities and differences in genetic, physical traits, or both.
