Levels of Organization Flashcards
What is the simplest level of organization in a living organism?
Cell – The basic structural and functional unit of life.
What is a group of similar cells that perform a specific function called?
Tissue – A group of similar cells working together to perform a particular function.
What do we call a structure made up of different types of tissues working together?
Organ – A structure composed of different tissues that work together to carry out specific tasks (e.g., heart, lungs).
What is a group of organs that work together to perform a major function?
Organ System – A collection of organs that perform related functions (e.g., digestive system, circulatory system).
What is the highest level of organization in an individual organism?
Organism – A complete living entity that can function independently, made up of all organ systems working together.
Arrange these levels in order from simplest to most complex: Organ System, Tissue, Cell, Organ, Organism.
Order: Cell → Tissue → Organ → Organ System → Organism.
