Patient drowsy, can open eyes and look at examiner, responds to questions, but fall asleep easy
Lethargic
Patient can open eyes and look at examiner, responds slowly, CONFUSED, decreased alerness
Obtundation
Patient aroused from sleep only with painful stimuli. Verbal responses slow. PAtient returns to sleep with stimuli removed
Stupor
State of unconsciousness where pt cannot be aroused. Eyes remain closed.
Coma
Return of sleep/wake cycles
Normalization of vegetative function (breathing, HR, BP, Digestion)
Lack of cognitive responsiveness (aroused but unaware)
Unresponsive Vigilance (Vegetative)
Persistent vegetative state is how long?
> 1 year for TBI
>3 months for ANI
Severely altered consciousness with minimal but definite evidence of awareness
Minimally conscious State
