A
  • member of phylum is commonly known as sponges.
  • they’re marine and asymmetrical animals.
  • have water transport/canal system.
    -water enters through Ostia, water goes out through the osculum. body wall into a central cavity spongocoel.
  • pathway of water transport that is helpful in food gathering, respiratory exchange, and removal of waste.
    ex, sycon, spongilla, etc

i) choanocytes
ii) spicules/spongin fibres
iii) hermaphrodite

A

i) or also called collar cells line the spongocoel and the canals. digestion is intercellular.
ii) the body is supported by a skeleton made up of spicules or spongin fibers
iii) sexes are not separated

how do sponges reproduce asexually and sexually? how is fertilization happen? (phylum-Porifera)

A

asexually by fragmentation
sexually by the formation of gametes.
fertilization is internal, development is indirectly having a larval stage that is morphologically distinct from the adult.
