in maths difference is always a number
take away the smaller number from the bigger one
6 - 4 = the difference is 2
? - 3 = 7
what number is ?
- I put the -3 on the other side
- opposite side means opposite sign so it will be +
- so ? = 7 + 3
- ? = 10
? + 6 = 10
what number is ?
- I put the + 6 on the other side
- opposite side means opposite sign so it will be -
- so ? = 10 - 6
- ? = 4
Name two numbers that add up to 10
you can choose any ot the pairs 1 + 9 is the same as 9 + 1 2 + 8 is the same as 8 + 2 3 + 7 is the same as 7 + 3 4 + 6 is the same as 6 + 4 5 + 5
what is
3 less than 16
less means take away
16 - 3 = 13
what is
3 more than 14
more means add
14 + 3 = 17
what is the next number
19, 17, 15, 13, …
- from 19 to 17 we take away 2
- the last number is 13
- so we do 13 - 2 = 11
subtract
10 from 16
subtract means -
so 16 - 10 = 6
double 8
double means we add two the same numbers
