Supressing painful emotions
A
A habit we do all the time
“Walk it off” “stuff it down” “ suffer through it”
These feelings accumulate in a reservoir of painful emotions

Express and vent painful emotions
A
At some point you vent
Expressing them does not free them
You don’t get rid of all of it

Escape painful emotions
A
Diversion, entertainment, distraction, sex, binging, social media, substances, frantic activity
The goal is not to try to escape, there is no escape, face and name emotions, find the source, let it’s power go

How to let go
A
- Be aware of what you want to let go of (sensation, feeling, thoughts leave after)
- Stay with it without dualism, feel it fully
- Let it come up and release its energy
Release the control and power that the offending person and situation have had in your life
