Let me talk Flashcards
Long passing
He set himself well by planting his foot opposite foot strongly next to the ball and struck through the ball cleanly making a strong contact.
This allowed his team to progress up the pitch so that their defence can bring their defensive line up which means the team to gain territory and apply pressure on the opposition whilst also taking pressure off themselves allowing them time to switch off and recover.
Number 6 used newtons third law of Action and Reaction to ensure he applies the correct amount of force to the ball through his foot to make the ball travel the distance he wants so it reaches his teammate
Short passing
He was able to pass the ball consistently with both feet always finding his teammates with sufficient power so they can control the ball.
This allowed his team to keep the ball and force the other team to expend energy by pressing the ball which would wear them out and cause gaps to open up to give his side a better chance to get into goal scoring opportunities
Freedom of movement has allowed players and coaches from foreign countries to move to a new country due to the Bosman ruling meaning philosophies from countries like Spain have transported to England making short passing football more prevalent. This has encouraged courageous styles of play with dangerous possession based football highlighting the rewards of high possession based teams.
Dribbling
Used both feet to beat multiple opponents driving into space that opened up and kept the ball close to his feet so he could react to defenders quickly
Progressed the ball up the pitch which put his team in an advantageous position as he allowed them to build offensive pressure on the opponents. This meant they could build momentum and increase the likelihood of defensive mistakes
The player was comfortable to dribble and perform skill moves without too much thought meaning the skill is habitual and has been overlearned so he is in the autonomous stage for this skill.
Long shooting
The player did not plant his foot strongly next to the ball and was leaning back with his head not over the ball. He hit the ball in the wrong part of the ball with the wrong part of his foot.
This impacted the game negatively as he wasted a good opportunity where his team had progressed to an attacking position and gave possession back to the other team. This causes his own teams performance to decrease as they are now chasing the ball and wasting energy which will increase their chances of making a mistake later on.
The performer may have too many Fg fibres in comparison to SO meaning he hits the ball with too much power due to an increased force and speed of contraction of his muscles which caused him to hit it over the bar.
Standing tackle
The player made no connection with the ball as he did not set himself in a good position or have the reaction time to react, so the opposition passed him easily.
This impacted the game as it allowed the opposition team to run past him and take him out the game putting them in a dangerous scenario attacking with the defensive midfielder out of the game. This means the opposition could create overload situations to enhance chances of winning
The player may have had low levels of arousal as his reticular activating system may have controlled him to have lower intensity of arousal. This caused him to not be in an energised state of readiness to perform the tackle meaning he lacked intensity and missed the tackle.
Which pass to make
Constantly making the correct decision to give the ball to a player who is open allowing the ball to be controlled by his teammates meaning the ball is retained.
This impacted the game as it allowed his team to keep control of the game and build up to create chances whether directly or indirectly from his passes. This means his team got more control over the game so can dictate the rhythm of play and potentially create more goal-scoring opportunities.
This is due to Atkinson and Shiffrin’s multi store model as the player has got lots of passing situations in his long-term memory so he can recall from there to bring experiences to his working memory to aid his decision making of which pass to play.
Awareness of rules and regulations and their applications
Calling for offside in the correct situations and preventing himself from fouling by pulling away and allowing the player to go past sometimes
This impacted the game as he was not putting his team under unneeded pressure by committing unnecessary fouls which would put his team at larger risk of conceding as they would have to defend set pieces.
The rules of football developed over time originating from Mob Football and then becoming more standardised with the introduction of the FA in 1863 throughout the 19th 20th and 21st century ending up with the current rules of football that are known worldwide
Where to dribble
He was dribbling into areas with space so he could advance the ball and not lose it and putting his team in good attacking areas.
Had a great impact on the game as it dragged opposing defenders and players out of their shape meaning gaps were created for the attacking team to exploit giving them a greater likelihood of creating chances and potentially scoring meaning they would take a lead in the game giving them the advantage.
The quality of his dribbling may be due to the performer being fully focused and controlled and being intrinsically rewarded by the movement performance. In this situation they experience greatest happiness and self-fulfilment which is a ‘peak flow experience’ meaning its most likely that he has high somatic arousal and low cognitive anxiety.
Where to tackle
Attempted tackles in areas where he was unable to contact the ball which caused him to be out of the game due to poor timing of his tackles
Impacted the game as it meant his team had to defend without a midfielder making it more likely that the attacking team can score or create a good chance.
The players knee must be extended with the rectus femoris being the agonist and the antagonist being the bicep femoris. The hips will also extend to try to generate power in the tackle.
When to shoot
Shot whilst he was leaning back, off balance hadn’t planted foot properly and with multiple players closing him down.
Impacted the game meaning he lost his team possession of the ball so allowing the other team to begin to build out giving them more control on the game so gaining the upper hand towards possession and chance creation
As shooting in football is an open skill it requires the performer to be of a high level and to adapt to the ever-changing scenarios which this player couldn’t meaning poor decision making when deciding to shoot which may have been due to him not being in the autonomous stage for shooting.
Cardiovascular endurance
Having good cardiovascular endurance is vital for a central midfielder as it allows them to keep performing to a high standard the longer the game progresses without tiring.
The player showed strong cardiovascular endurance as he was able to constantly run up down and around the pitch without his quality of passing and other key aspects dropping as well as never looking tired or fatigued.
This will impact the game as he will not fatigue meaning he can stay on the pitch for the full game and sustain high levels of performance. This means he will help his team by making sure they can constantly rely on him know that they can trust always him to do the right thing to help towards the goal of winning the game
This player will have such great cardiovascular endurance because of a high aerobic capacity and VO2 max due to being a male, a fairly young age and his physiological makeup causing greater efficiency of respiratory system meaning greater transportation and utilisation of oxygen.
Power
Having good power is important in football as I enables players to perform explosive movements like quick accelerations as well as explosive jumps and many other things.
The player showed great power when engaging in explosive activities like duels and during explosive movements of limbs like long passing and shooting
This will impact the game as it allows him to make the ball travel a long distance at speed which means he can help transition the ball early with long passes or diagonals to turn the defence around on the counter attack
The player may have been doing plyometric training involving rapid, powerful movements that combine speed and strength to increase his explosive power
Strength endurance
Allows the players muscles to exert force repeatedly over an extended period of time with minimal effects of fatigue from prolonged periods of exercise.
This impacted the game as it enables them to sustain performance levels and continue to complete sprints tackles and passes so they can gain an advantage as other players tire and their levels drop.
The player may draw on the aerobic system as it provides them with high ATP yield and long duration of energy production with no fatiguing by-products
Agility
Agility helps players move quickly and change direction in response to the movement of the ball or another player
The performer had poor agility which impacted the game negatively as it meant he could not react and match the agility of opposition players dribbling meaning he couldn’t shift quickly enough to stop them getting past meaning they could get a run towards goal.
The player may need to try and improve their agility by training dynamic flexibility which may help them combat their weakness.
