The Hadith: “Whoever Obeys Me”

A
  •

    > **Narrated Abu Huraira:**
    >
    > **Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Whoever obeys me, obeys Allah, and whoever disobeys me, disobeys Allah, and whoever obeys the ruler I appoint, obeys me, and whoever disobeys him, disobeys me."**

    > **Narrated Abu Huraira:**
    >
    > **Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Whoever obeys me, obeys Allah, and whoever disobeys me, disobeys Allah, and whoever obeys the ruler, obeys me, and whoever disobeys the ruler has disobeyed me."**
    >

    ---

There is a difference between the obedience due to Allah and his messenger, and that of a ruler, which is for the former our obedience is absolute and unrestricted, while for the rulers it not absolute and restricted in scope.

    ---

We already explain why we must obey the messenger, and it is the statement of Allah

    >
    > **Nor does he speak of (his own) desire.**
    >
    > **It is only a Revelation revealed.**
    >
    > -Najm 3-4
    >

So when you oppose the Sunnah, in reality you are opposing Allah, as Allah was the one who revealed and inspired the prophet to say those words, and therefore, disobeying him is disobeying Allah.

The Hadith: “Except the One Who Refuses”

A
  •

    >

    **Narrated Abu Huraira:**

**Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "All my followers will enter Paradise except those who refuse." They said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Who will refuse?" He said, "Whoever obeys me will enter Paradise, and whoever disobeys me is the one who refuses (to enter it)."**

    -Bukhari

    ---

By turning away from his Sunnah, rejecting it, not implementing it, a person has refused Paradise, as they are not willing to follow the means to paradise- the Sunnah

The Ahadith: “Whatever the Messenger Made Haraam”

A

Musnad Imam Ahmed, Sunan Abi Dawud, al hakim in his Mustadrak, with a good chain of narration from Al-Miqdam ibn Ma’dikarib:

>

**Narrated Al-Miqdam ibn Ma'dikarib:**

**The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Beware! I have been given the Qur'an and something like it, yet the time is coming when a man replete on his couch will say: Keep to the Qur'an; what you find in it to be permissible treat as permissible, and what you find in it to be prohibited treat as prohibited. Beware! The domestic ass, beasts of prey with fangs, a find belonging to confederate, unless its owner does not want it, are not permissible to you If anyone comes to some people, they must entertain him, but if they do not, he has a right to mulct them to an amount equivalent to his entertainment.**

>

**Al-Miqdam b. Ma'dikarib reported God’s messenger as saying, “I have indeed been brought the Qur’an and something like it along with it, yet the time is coming when a man replete on his couch will say, ‘Keep to this Qur’an; what you find in it to be permissible treat as permissible, and what you find in it to be prohibited treat as prohibited.’ But what God’s messenger has prohibited is like what God has prohibited. The domestic ass, beasts of prey with fangs, a find belonging to a confederate, unless its owner does not want it, are not permissible to you. If anyone comes to some people they must entertain him, but if they do not, he has a right to mulct them to an amount equivalent to his entertainment.”**

Abu Dawud transmitted it, and Darimi transmitted something similar. Ibn Majah transmitted the same up to “like what God has prohibited.”

>

**Narrated AbuRafi':**

**The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Let me not find one of you reclining on his couch when he hears something regarding me which I have commanded or forbidden and saying: We do not know. What we found in Allah's Book we have followed.**

These Ahadith in these wordings have been narrated by numerous companions that it reaches Mutawattir

>
>
> **Narrated Al-Irbad ibn Sariyah as-Sulami: {The messenger ﷺ said} Does any of you, while reclining on his couch, imagine that Allah has prohibited only that which is to be found in this Qur'an? By Allah, I have preached, commanded and prohibited various matters as numerous as that which is found in the Qur'an, or more numerous.**

Even though this Hadith is more related to establishing the Sunnah as evidence, it is important in terms of the status of the Sunnah.

Whatever we find in it we must implement, be it a prohibition and we keep away, or a command and we do as much of it as we can.

Statement of Ibn Abdil Barr on the Hadith narrated by Malik about what the messenger ﷺ left for us

A

Imam Malik narrated saying بَلَّغَنَا- it reached us, and this isn’t a connected chain, but the scholars of Hadeeth said it is authentic, and has been connected in other places

Malik reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “I have left you with two matters which will never lead you astray, as long as you hold to them: the Book of Allah and the Sunnahof his Prophet.
