What Allâh gave as booty (Fai’) to His Messenger (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) from the people of the townships - it is for Allâh, His Messenger (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم), the kindred (of Messenger Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم), the orphans, Al-Masâkin (the poor), and the wayfarer, in order that it may not become a fortune used by the rich among you. And whatsoever the Messenger (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) gives you, take it; and whatsoever he forbids you, abstain (from it).1And fear Allâh; verily, Allâh is Severe in punishment.

In an Introduction the history of the Sunnah, what will be covered (not really important to memorize each thing specifically)
We cover the status of the Sunnah:
- The Quran
- From the prophet’s own speech
- Among the Sahabah
- Among those who followed them
The Sunnah as an evidence
- Some people reject the Sunnah, or some parts of it
Writing of the Sunnah in time of the propjet and those who came after
- Was it written in his time?
- How much was written?
- How did writing develop over history?
- How was it written
Conveying the Sunnah
Transmission and memorization and methodology of the people of Hadeeth:
- How was the Sunnah preserved in terms of the causes of preservation? (worldly reasons, as Allah did protect it, but how did the scholars do so from which Allah enabled them?)
Stages of recording of the Sunnah in History
- Being written during the time of the messenger time-how did it change from then?
Types of works authored in the sciences of the Sunnah
- Jawami’- such as Jami’ Saheeh of Bukhari
- Masaneed-like Musnad Imam Ahmed
- Particular topics- 40 hadiths on ___
Defending the Sunnah
- To be able to justify its value and importance, its usage of evidence, and defend against misconceptions and false ideas
The Importance and Virtue of the History of the Sunnah
e learn the history of the Sunnah to understand the status of the Sunanh for the one who studies it
- Teaches you In order to know the special and unique qualities of the way the Sunnah was preserved for the Ummah alone. (the way Allah preserved the Sunnah for us was nothing like for the other prophets, we dont have a “sunnah” of Musa, there is Sanad, no way to know who transmitted it, etc)
- Teaches us Efforts of the companions and those who followed them from the scholars of Hadeeth (in memorizing, writing, and defending it) and inspires you to be someone who plays your own part in this role.
- Understanding the different styles of authorship, and how authorship developed over time
- You see how authorship changed, and you know how to treat each book
- Such as the earliest book having no isnad, and then 200 years after their Hijrah it’s with chains of narration, so you learn how to handle that, why each of them has that
- Books that should be in your library on Hadeeth as books have different areas such as:
- The status of the Sunnah
- The science of validating Hadith
- Fiqh of Hadeeth
- People in the chain
- You see how authorship changed, and you know how to treat each book
- Be able to respond to false claims and misconceptions made about the Sunnah and this will be one of the best fruits we get form this

**Forbidden to you (for food) are: Al-Maitah (the dead animals - cattle - beast not slaughtered), blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which Allâh’s Name has not been mentioned while slaughtering, (that which has been slaughtered as a sacrifice for others than Allâh, or has been slaughtered for idols) and that which has been killed by strangling, or by a violent blow, or by a headlong fall, or by the goring of horns - and that which has been (partly) eaten by a wild animal - unless you are able to slaughter it (before its death) - and that which is sacrificed (slaughtered) on An-Nusub1(stone-altars). (Forbidden) also is to use arrows seeking luck or decision; (all) that is Fisqun (disobedience of Allâh and sin). This day, those who disbelieved have given up all hope of your religion; so fear them not, but fear Me. This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islâm as your religion. But as for him who is forced by severe hunger, with no inclination to sin (such can eat these above-mentioned meats), then surely, Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.**
