What is Social Policy?
Refers to the actions (or inactions) of government and its agencies in relation to the lives of the population
[refers to law and decisions in areas of housing, taxation’s, employment and social security]
Define social problems
E.g.?
What is the relation between government and social problems?
Aspects of social life that cause misery and anxiety to both private individuals and and society in general
E.g.: crime, child abuse, domestic violence, and suicide
Often government social policies aimed at solving or reducing social problems and based on evidence gathered by sociologists (sociological research)
Define sociological problems
Any aspect of social life - whether ‘normal’ or ‘deviant’
Sociologists focus on sociological problems to increase knowledge on how society works and to establish patterns and predicted behaviour/
