Overthrow of Tarquin
-Tarquinius Superbus is ousted in 509 BC
-Lucius Junius Brutus and Lucius Tarquinius Collatinus establish the Republic with themselves as consuls.

-Tarquin sends an embassy into Rome claiming he wants to reclaim his stuff

Embassy Conspiracy
-Conspirators kill a man, drink his blood, and plot to kill the consuls for Tarquin
-they are caught
- Brutus kills his sons for their crimes, but Collatinus and his nephews are banished
Battle of Silvia Arsia
-509 BC
-Arruns leads the Etruscans army against the Roman army led by Brutus
-Brutus and Arruns kill each other
- Rome wins and Etruria retreats to Clusium
-The king, Lars Porsena agrees to aid Tarquin
Cocles
-name means one eye
-single-handedly fights the Etruscans on the Pons Sublicius (bridge across Tiber)
-Spear-butt, leaps into river after the bridge is destroyed
-Becomes national hero
Gaius Mucius
-sneaks into Etruscan camp to attempt to kill Lars
-fails, accidentally kills treasurer, is captured
-bluffs about more assasins coming
-sticks his own hand into a fire, which intimidates Lars and Lars lets him go
-bluffs about assasins hidden in the camp, Lars surrenders because of this
-gains the name Scaevola (left-handed)
Cloelia
-Lars demands hostages in trade for peace
-Cloelia is among the hostages
-escapes and swims back to Rome
-Lars threatens to break the peace
-Cloelia willingly returns, impressing Lars
-Lars let her release half of the hostages back into Rome, she chooses the men so they can continue military service.
Tarquin Final Defeat
-498 BC Tarquin tries to reclaim Rome one last time
-Titus leads an army against Rome (Battle of Lake Regillus)
-Romans are loosing but win after the Dioscuri (the Gemini) aid them
-Tarquin retreats to Magna Graecia, dies of old age four years later
