Describe the three sources of water. Where they are from and key attributes
Surface water - water from river lakes and reservoirs. High levels of BOD and pollution
Boreholes. - Water from the ground. Low in BOD however high in minerals.
Municipal water - treated water from sites. Assumes that water is potable.
Describe the 3 water catagories and their attributes
Product water - water used directly in making the product. Mashing and dilution water
Process water - Water used to help make the product. CIP and and cooling water
Service water - used for services on site such as boilers and cooling tower. Often treated.
Describes the ways to conserve water in distilling
Product water. Prevent leaks and excess flushing
Process water prevent leaks and excess CIP use
Service water - condensate loss and excess cooling water
Describe product water in terms of Colour, pH taste and odour
Colour - should be colourless and have no tints of colour. Coloured water often takes a milky in the presence of calcium & potassium
