lesson 7 - Photosynthesis Flashcards
unit 3
Photosynthesis
is the process in which light energy is converted to chemical energy in the form of glucose
Light-dependent reaction
endergonic reactions that absorb and capture the energy of light. They occur on the lamellar membranes of the chloroplasts.
Light-independent reaction
(Calvin Cycle) are exergonic reactions that use that stored energy to produce organic storage products (carbohydrates). They occur in the stroma of the chloroplasts.
Stroma (phase 2)
The fluid inside chloroplasts where the light-independent phase of photosynthesis (Calvin cycle) takes place.
Thylakoid disc (phase 1)
The light-dependent reaction happens in the thylakoid membranes, where sunlight splits water to make oxygen, ATP, and NADPH.
