Lesson 7 Flashcards
Phenomenon under study that varies or assumes different values
Explanatory variable
It is the variable of interest to the researcher
Explanatory variable
Four types of explanatory variable
Independent
Dependent
Intervening
Moderator
Factors that are being manipulated by the researcher and focus of the inquiry
Independent variablr
Another name for Independent Variable
Experimental
Treatment
Causal
Stimulus variables
It influences the variability of the dependent varkable
Independent variable
Factors that are affected or influenced by the independent variable
Dependent Variable
Another name for dependent
Criterion
Effect
Response
Outcome
This recquires analysis, interpretation, and implications of the finding of the study for knowledge and practical purpose
Dependent Variable
Factors or variables that can come between the independent and dependent variables
Intervening variable
Another name for intervening variable
Correlated or mediator variables
Variables that affect the strength and direction between the relationship of independent and dependent variable
Moderator variable
Are not the direct foci of the study, they tend to affect the results to a certain extent
Extraneous or exogenous variables
Variables that are not the direct interest of the researcher
Extraneous or exogenous variabkes
Two types of extraneous variable:
Organismic variables
Environmental variables
These are psychological, physiological, and demographic factors of the target population
Organismic population
These are economic, anthropological, sociological, and physical factors that influence the phenomenon of the study
Environmental variable
These are factors that have different values which are qualitatively measured and statistically tested through the hypotheses
Abstract or continuous variables
These are factors with only two values
Dichotomous variable
These are used in comparative studies and specifically identified in the hypotheses
Dichotomous variables
