Lesson 18 Flashcards
A subset of population elements
Sample
One of whose key characteristics closely approximate those of the population
Representative sample
The individuals who will respond to the survey
Respondents / Participants of the study
The individuals who will receive treatment or intervention and or special intervention
Subjects of the study
Individuals chosen to provide the most vital information in qualitative studies
Key informants or volunteer samples
The process of selecting a portion of the population to represent the entire population
Sampling
This is a practical and efficient means of ensuring the quality of data that will be gathered
Sampling
The most basic unit about which information is collected
Element
Refers to a “specific area or place” which can be used during the sampling process
Sampling unit
Comprises a “complete list of sampling units” from which sample is drawn
Sampling frame
Systematic overpresentation or underpresentation of some segment of the population
Sampling bias
Totality of elements to which research findings may apply
Universe
This refers to the target population, the group of people or objects from which research intends to collect data
Universe
Accessible group of individuals from which samples will be drawn from the researcher
Population
Specific types of population:
Target population
Subject or respondent population
Stratum
Eligibility or inclusion criteria
