- What is hermeneutics, and what does it focus on?
The science of interpretation. It focuses on what the text would have meant to the original audience.
- What is a major element in determining the context of a passage?
Historical criticism
- What is textual criticism?
The science of determining the original wording of Scripture.
- What does exegesis do?
Exegesis starts with the original intended meaning and works forward to the present day.
- What eisegesis, and why should it be avoided?
Eisegesis is reading a meaning into the text, it does not seek to understand what the text is actually saying but tries to force a particular interpretation onto the Scriptures.
- What is a theology?
The study of the words of God, or the doctrine of God.
