Lesson 6: Active Transport Flashcards
Active transport
-ATP is needed
-materials move against the conc gradient
-carrier protein molecules act as pumps
-process is very selective and the specific substances being transported
Bulk Transport
-when extremely large substances need to be moved across a membrane bulk transport is used
-the tow types are endocytosis and exocytosis
-endocytosis is material into the cell
-exocytosis is material out the cell
Endocytosis
-Phagocytosis/ used for solid particles and the surface membrane forms pseudopods which fuse together to create a large vesicle around particles
-Pinocytosis/ used for liquids and the cell membrane invaginates to form a vesicle around particles
Exocytosis
-bulk movement of material out of the cell
-revers of phagocytosis and pinocytosis
-vesicle fuses with surface membrane and contents are released out of the cell
