Lesson 5: World Ideologies Flashcards
An ideology
is a system or society of ideas or mental aims to explain the world and change it. Present Ideologies can be Political, Economic, and Social in nature.
Conservatism
gives more importance to the long-held traditions of the past generations than the new system of the present period.
Social conservatives uphold
religion, patriotism, and family.
Liberalism recognizes
individualism or the central importance of the human as an individual. Its core values are individualism, liberty(freedom), and equal rights.
Social Liberalism promotes
individual rights, gender equality, and racial equality.
Political liberals believe the government should provide
venues and opportunities to further improve and maximize these positive and potentially productive qualities.
Whereas economic liberals believe the government should uphold the
free market system and laissez-faire economics.
Capitalism strongly favors the
accumulation of capital in order to expand business operations and increase the profit of corporations.
Capitalism is geared towards
economic ideology which recognizes an individual’s right to own property, expand trade of his own will and participate in a free market.
As a result, it creates a huge gap between
the rich and the poor.
Socialism __________________ for they put great importance on society
disagrees with Capitalism
Its aim is to promote
social equality by evenly distributing wealth to everyone.
Society is in control of
production and not by a private company or only an individual.
It is like you have two cows,
so you give one to your neighbor so that both of you have an equal number of cows.
Communism is an ideology that
seeks to dismantle the system of class inequality in society.
An economic ideology with the belief that
“from each according to his ability, to each according to his need.”
the main difference is that
socialism is compatible with democracy and liberty, whereas Communism involves creating an ‘equal society through an authoritarian state, which denies basic liberties.
Here, the government is empowered to use its power, by all means, possible for the
common good of the community at the expense of their liberties and rights.
Fascism
is a political ideology based on the belief that the interest of the state comes first before the welfare of its citizens.
For instance, if your interest is to become a Medical Doctor but the
fascist government demands youth to be soldiers, the government’s demand should win.
