Lesson 5: Hydraulic Valves Flashcards
What are the 2 types of valves?
Flow and Pressure
This type of valve selects the route of flow
Flow Valve
Purpose of SELECTOR valves?
determines the direction of fluid flow
Poppet, rotary, spool, are all types of what?
Selector Valve
If fluid does not pass through the valve when OFF what type is it?
Closed Centre
Poppet selector valves are controlled by what?
CAMS
This type of selector valve has a cylinder inside that rotates
ROTARY
This selector valve uses a piston and is used for flight controls/landing gear/autopilot
SPOOL
What are the 2 types of check valves?
Inline Integral
Purpose of restrictors?
reduce fluid flow by reducing passage area
This type of valve is similar to a check valve but follows a series of events
Sequence Valve
Similar to pressure activated sequence valves except that they are used to ensure essential systems are given priority over non-essential systems
Priority Valves
Purpose of quick disconnect valves?
maintenance suction lines
Purpose of FUSES
prevent loss of fluid DOWNSTREAM
2 types of fuses?
Pressure drop Volume
2 ways of resetting a fuse?
manually bleed off self reset
How does the pressure drop fuse work?
pressure spring piston
WHich type of fuse allows reverse flow?
Volume
This type of valve is used to provide an alternate route for fluid to travel when required(back-up or emergency operation)
Shuttle valve
How does a shuttle valve work?
piston shift
Purpose of shut off valves?
shut off supply of hydraulic fluid
Where do we use shut off valves?
engine firewall shut off maintenance iso inlet to actuators
These valves used to regulate or control the pressure in a hydraulic system.
Pressure control valve
What are the types of pressure control valves?
relief regulator reducer
Purpose of system RELIEF valve?
backup for main pressure reg high pressure check valve
Purpose of thermal relief valves?
relieve pressure caused by thermal expansion
Purpose of pressure regulators?
maintain a specified pressure range in a closed-centre hydraulic system powered by a constant displacement EDP
Where would you use a pressure reducer?
where component or sub-system pressure is less than system pressure (eg autopilot servo)
What are the 3 types of IN LINE check valves?
Ball
Cone
SWING
