• Geographically close to where you live
• People more likely to be insiders bc they’ve experienced them and feel comfortable in them

• However, not all feel like insiders in places close to them, some feel like outsiders (Gender, age etc)

What are far places?

• Distant from where a person lives
• People more likely to be outsiders bc less experience in them so less comfortable

However, people increasingly feel like insiders in far places due to globalisation, this is bc:
•Improvements in travel technology mean far places are easy to get to
•Improvements in ICT lead to familiarity with far places
