  • no public houses were built but the bournville trust set up schools, hospitals etc on behalf of the cadbury workers
  • they also laid of a tenth of the estate as recreation grounds e.g parks
  • it is now no longer exclusive to cadbury workers but hasn’t changed much in the last century

-changed considerably in last 50 years due to external factors
-originally established as a naval dockyard
-1952, the navy requistioned town centre as a storage enclave and enclosed it with a 3m high wall
-community split into 2 and displaced residents were placed in other housing not suited to family life
-physical environment of devonport has changed considerably
-the wall has been removed
inter-war housing and flats have been demolished and historical landmarks have been incorporated into redevelopment
