A
  1. It holds the bullet
  2. It serves as waterproof container for the gunpowder.
  3. It prevents the escape of the gases to the rear as the sidewalls of the cartridge case are forced against the walls of the chamber by the pressure.

Q

CLASSIFICATION OF CARTRIDGE ACCORDING TO SHAPE:

A
  1. STRAIGHT CASE- REVOLVER (shotshell)
  2. TAPERED CASE- MAGNUM JET CAL.22
  3. BOTTLE NECK CASES- RIFLES (longer (length) than straight case)
17
Q

CLASSIFY CARTRIDGE ACCORDING TO HEAD FORM:

A
  1. RIMMED TYPE- for revolvers; the rim of the cartridge is longer than the body
  2. SEMI-RIMMED- presence of Estracting Groove. Slightly shorter compared to rimmed type
  3. RIMLESS- common on pistols; head is proportional to the body of the cartridge
