Lesson 5 Flashcards
Center of gravity
the point around which an object’s weight is balanced (the larger the vehicle the lower the center of gravity)
Kinetic Energy
energy of motion as weight doubles energy of motion doubles
Traction
is the friction that allows tires to grip the roadway
Friction
the gripping action that keeps the tired from slipping
Banked curve
higher on the outside that on the inside
Gravity
the force that pulls a vehicle towards the earth
How do you properly curve?
Brake into the curve, accelerate out of the curve
How to hill drive
Accelerate over the hill so no one runs into your from behind
Blind curve
you can not see what is around the corner therefore you must accelerate when leaving the curve
Total stopping distance
The distance a vehicle travels while stopping
Perception Time and Perception Distance
Time to identify, predict, and decide to slow for a hazard
Distance you travel while identifying a situation
Reaction Time and Reaction Distance
Time it takes you to execute your action (3/4 seconds)
Distance that you travel while you are reacting
Braking Distance
Distance a vehicle travels from when you apply the brake until you stop
ABS
Anti-lock braking system
Road Surface
is the road wet, icy, uneven, gravel etc
