lesson 4 - hypergeometric distributions Flashcards
conditions for hypergeometric distribution
The hypergeometric distribution is one unlike any of the others. There are 3 conditions which must be fulfilled:
Trials that are not identical
Trials that are dependent
Two possible outcomes; success or failure
hypergeometric distribution probability
Hypergeometric distribution probability formula
P(x) = (aCx)(n-aCr-x) where n = # of possible outcomes
nCr a = # of successful outcomes r = # of dependent trials
x = number of required successes
Exemple - in five card stud poker, each player is dealt 5 cards. Determine the probability of being dealt three clubs.
P(x) = (13C3)(39C2)
(52C5)
hypergeometric distribution expected value
Hypergeometric distribution expected value = probability of success times the number of dependent trials.
E(x) = r (a/n)
Example - in five card stud poker, each player is dealt five cards. Determine how many clubs you should expect to receive.
E(x) = r (a/n) E(x) = 5 (13/52)
=65/52
