Lesson 4 Helicopter Flight Controls and Airframe Flashcards
ALWAYS have your ________ on the collective when the blades are turning.
Hand
What is the correlator?
As you raise the collective up, the correlator is making fuel adjustments (up collective, adding fuel…down collective, decreasing fuel)
What is the governor?
Keeps the rpm constant, no throttle adjustments are required
When you push cyclic forward, what happens to the blade angles?
Increases the blade pitch on the left side, force is felt 90 degrees later (in the rear) and the helicopter moves forward.
How should you adjust up and down in a helicopter?
By using the collective
Why does the nose of the helicopter want to go to the right in hover flight?
Torque
In forward flight, what are the pedals used for?
They are used to keep the helicopter in trim
What are the three major controls of the helicopter?
Collective, cyclic, anti-torque pedals
What are the three main uses of the pedals?
- Counteract the torque of the main rotor
- Maintain trim in forward flight
- In a hover, allows the pilot to control heading
