LESSON 4:FLOW MEASUREMENT Flashcards
Identifies the quantity of the fluid that passes through any pipe, channel, or space using flow measurement devices. Fluids that are measured include liquids, gas or vapor.
Flow Measurement
means the given quantity of a substance either in terms of mass or volume that passes through a pipe per unit time
Flow
an instrument that is used to measure the flow rate of a fluid per unit time
Flowmeter
a suspension of solid particles in a liquid, as in a mixture of clay, coal dust, and water
Air, Liquid, gas, slurries
Types of Flows
Laminar Flow and Turbulent Flow
The relative motion of a set of concentric cylinders of fluid, the outside one fixed at the pipe wall and other moving at increasing speeds as the centre of the pipe approached. Common in cases in which the flow channel is relatively small, the fluid is moving slowly, and its viscosity is relatively high.
Laminar Flow
Characterized by the irregular movement of particles of the fluid. There is no definite as there is in wave motion motion.
Turbulent Flow
The distance traveled by a fluid per time i.e. meter/ second or feet/ minute. Also known as macroscopic velocity.
Flow velocity
The vector field that is used to described fluid motion in a mathematical manner.
Flow velocity
The entire length of the flow velocity
Flow speed
Determine the object’s original velocity by dividing the time it took for the object to travel a given distance by the total distance.
In the equation V= d/t, V is the velocity, d is the distance, and t is the time
The mass of a substance which passes per unit of time. Its unit is kilogram per second in SI units, and slug per second in US customary units
Mass Flow Rate
The mass of a liquid substance passing per unit time.
Mass Flow rate
defined as the rate of movement of liquid pass through a unit area
Mass Flow rate
mass of a liquid substance passing per unit time. In other words, the mass flow rate of movement of liquid pass through a unit area.
