Lesson 4 - Ecological Pyramids & Interactions In an Ecosystem Flashcards
What are h to w 3 ecological pyramid
- pyramid of numbers
-pyramid of biomass - pyramid of energy
Pyramid of energy
Show the amount of energy input into each trophic level per unit of area ( kj/ m2)
What does the pyramid of energy looks like
Always descending
==== ========= =================
What is a pyramid of numbers
Displays the number of organisms at each trophic level per unit of area
What does pyramid of numbers looks like
Either descending ( chronological order ) or uneven depending on given information
What causes the unevenness of the pyramid of numbers
Higher reproduction rate of one of the organisms
What is the pyramid of biomass
Shoes the amount of matter at each trophic level per unit (g/ m2 )
What does pyramid of biomass looks like
Either descending ( chronological order ) or uneven depending on given information
What are the different types of interactions i. An ecosystem
- competition
- predator- prey
- herbivores- plant
- symbiosis
- paratisim
- mutualism
- commensalism
Competition
Members of the sma rot different species compete for the same recourses ( Eg food , shelter, males)
Predator-prey
One species ( predator ) hunts , kills and eats other species ( prey )
Herbivore- plant
Animals ( herbivore ) eats only plants or parts of plants as a food source
Symbiosis
Two species depend on each other
Mutualism
Two species hat interact with each other to benifit one another
Commensalism
One species ( the commensal ) benefits form the other ( the host ) without harming it
Parasitism
An organism in or on a host, from which they obtain food shelter or other requirements, but the host is harmed and may die
