A
  1. neglect of culture- too focused on economic processes, underplays cultural aspects of social systems
  2. pessimistic- periphery can develop despite dependence, countries once underdeveloped are now highly developed/urbanised e.g. Singapore
  3. downplays local interactions- only looks at wider scale, ignores small scale processes
