LESSON 4 Flashcards
Two pronounced seasons, wet and dry. Max rainfall occurs in June to September. Dry season lasts from 3-6 months.
Type I
No dry season, with very pronounced max rainfall from December to January.
Type II
No very pronounced maximum rain period, with a short dry season. Closely resembles Type I instead of Type II since it has a dry season.
Type III
Rainfall is more or less evenly distributed throughout the year. This is also intermediate between Type I and Type II but closely resembles II since it has no dry season.
Type IV
Fruit Crops are best grown in Type IV climate except for?
Mango, Cashew, Tamarind
Average humidity value in the Philippines
82 percent
What are examples of crops that are best suited for subtropical climate?
Mandarin, Orange, Lychee, Arabica Coffee
These crops are examples of herbaceous, shallow-rooted crops.
Banana, Abaca, Pineapple
This soil texture has greater nutrient and water-holding capacity but has poor aeration and drainage.
Clayey soil
This soil texture is well-drained, well-aerated, and easy to cultivate, but it has a low nutrient and water holding capacity.
Sandy soil
Soil texture is determined in three ways:
- Feel Method
- Roll Method
- Mechanical Analysis
Kinds of cementing materials that contribute to soil structure
- Organic Matter
- Lime
- Fine Clay
Cultural practices that contribute to soil organic matter content
Cover Cropping
Organic Mulching
Green Manuring
Composting
typical soil pH range in the Philippines
5.5 to 6.5
What does soil pH affect?
solubility or availability of nutrients
soil organism activity
