What is WOW?
Windows on Windows is a special 32-bit environment to run applications. WOW64 is the 64-bit version that replicates a 32-bit environment expected by the application and translates its requests into ones that can be processed by the 64-bit CPU, memory, and file systems.
What is PXE?
Most computers now come with a Preboot eXEcution Environment (PXE)- compliant firmware and network adapter to support booting from a network with a suitably configured server.
What is a SED?
Self encrypting drive.
What is BCD?
Boot configuration data. It is usually stored along with the BOOTMGR in a hidden System Reserved partition.
What is RMM?
Remote Monitoring and Management. These are tools that are principally designed for managed service providers (MSPs). An MSP is an outsourcing company that specializes in handling IT support for its clients.
What is NLA?
Network Level Authentication. It protects RDP servers against denial of service attacks.
What is DirectAccess?
Microsoft’s virtual private networking technology.
What is POSIX?
POSIX compliance supports Linux compatibility.

Distribution method is not normally a major concern. Distribution is fairly standardized for Windows, Mac, and Linux computers.
What is the LPL?
Window’s Logo’d Product List catalog, previously called the Hardware Compatibility List (HCL). This is a catalog of tested devices and drivers.
What is a hardware token?
An external hardware token is a smart card or USB form factor device that stores some cryptographic user identification data.
What is WinRE?
Windows Recovery Environment. A command prompt where the user could run commands to try to repair the installation.
What is System Restore?
Restoring a system from an image backup, performing a refresh, or reset installation of Windows.
What is UEFI?
Unified Extensible Firmware Interface. Newer BIOS setup that allows users to configure recovery media as the priority boot device.
Which partitioning MBR or GPT is compatible with BIOS?
The legacy BIOS is only compatible with MBR (Master Boot Record) partitioning. If GPT (used for UEFI firmware) is used, the disk will not be recognized as a boot device.
