Lesson 3A: Peritoneum Flashcards
Pertioneum
A very thin continuous transparent serous#***
Is the parietal peritoneum a closed or open sac?
Closed–technically females could be argued otherwise.
What are cul de sacs?
“Dead ends” in the body. If you see free fluid in the abdomen, thats where its going to collect.
Is there a retrovesical pouch in a female or male?
Male
What are the 3 parts of the peritoneum?
Mesenteries, omenta, and peritoneal ligaments.
What is mesentery?
A fused double layer of peritoneum that encolses the intestine. It attaches the intraperitoneal structures in the abdominal cavity to the abdominal wall (suspends organs in A cavity. Is a conduit for blood vessels, lympathic vessels, and nerves. Holds the organs, lets it go where it wants but has restrictions. “Leash”
Peritoneum is _______ the parietal wall of the AC and instestine.
In between–suspensory portion
Peritoneum is the same as the pericardium. T | F
True
If you want to be more specific you can use “meso” and then a location. Example mesojejunum. T | F
True
What are the two levels of omenta?
Greater and lesser
Greater omentum
A “fatty apron” (gastrocolic). Fold of peritoneum that descends from the greater curvature of stomach and proximal duodenum.
Both omentums attach to stomach
Both omentums attach to stomach
What are the functions of greater omentum?
Fat deposition
Immune contribution
Infection and wound isolation
Lesser omentum is connected to greater sac via:
Foramen of Winslow
Peritoneal cavity is divided into _____ and ______ by the omentum.
Greater and lesser sac
Greater Sac
**
Lesser Sac (omental bursa (cushion sac–reduces friction)
**
Differences between P
Peritoneum-thin, single, continuous serous (2 layers-pareital and visceral) membrane. Covers most of the abdominal viscera.
Mesentery- double layer of serous membrane. 2 membranes fused
together.Holds & suspends the intestines from AW.
Omenta-double layer of peritoneum that connects to stomach to other viscera.
