Lesson 3A: Peritoneum Flashcards
Pertioneum
A very thin continuous transparent serous#***
Is the parietal peritoneum a closed or open sac?
Closed–technically females could be argued otherwise.
What are cul de sacs?
“Dead ends” in the body. If you see free fluid in the abdomen, thats where its going to collect.
Is there a retrovesical pouch in a female or male?
Male
What are the 3 parts of the peritoneum?
Mesenteries, omenta, and peritoneal ligaments.
What is mesentery?
A fused double layer of peritoneum that encolses the intestine. It attaches the intraperitoneal structures in the abdominal cavity to the abdominal wall (suspends organs in A cavity. Is a conduit for blood vessels, lympathic vessels, and nerves. Holds the organs, lets it go where it wants but has restrictions. “Leash”
Peritoneum is _______ the parietal wall of the AC and instestine.
In between–suspensory portion
Peritoneum is the same as the pericardium. T | F
True
If you want to be more specific you can use “meso” and then a location. Example mesojejunum. T | F
True
What are the two levels of omenta?
Greater and lesser
Greater omentum
A “fatty apron” (gastrocolic). Fold of peritoneum that descends from the greater curvature of stomach and proximal duodenum.
Both omentums attach to stomach
Both omentums attach to stomach
What are the functions of greater omentum?
Fat deposition
Immune contribution
Infection and wound isolation
Lesser omentum is connected to greater sac via:
Foramen of Winslow
Peritoneal cavity is divided into _____ and ______ by the omentum.
Greater and lesser sac
Greater Sac
**
Lesser Sac (omental bursa (cushion sac–reduces friction)
**
Differences between P
Peritoneum-thin, single, continuous serous (2 layers-pareital and visceral) membrane. Covers most of the abdominal viscera.
Mesentery- double layer of serous membrane. 2 membranes fused
together.Holds & suspends the intestines from AW.
Omenta-double layer of peritoneum that connects to stomach to other viscera.
Omenta, think ________.
Stomach
Peritoneal Ligament
Double fold of peritoneum that connects viscera together or connects viscera to the AW, eg. hepatogastric ligament which connects liver to stomach.
Anything that is not mesentery or omentum is considered a:
Peritoneal ligament
Greater curvature of stomach=greater omentum. T | F
True, G’s go together
Greater omentum contains the ________, ________, and _________.
Gastrophrenic,
gastrocolic, and gastrosplenic
Lesser omentum contains the _________ and ________.
Hepatoduodenal ligament and hepatogastric.
What divides the liver into the left and right lobes?
Falciform Ligament
Free hanging part that was part of umbilical in utero is called?
Ligamental Teres (aka round ligament)
Coronary Ligament
Attaches to the liver to the inferior surface of the diaphragm.
Coronary Ligament
Attaches to the liver to the inferior surface of the diaphragm. Consists of 2 layers of peritoneum.
Left and right triangular ligaments:
Where the layers of the coronary ligament meet to the right respectively.
Posterior right lobe liver is “bare area”. So there is covered by serous membrane. T | F
False
Intrperitoneal StructuresL
Stomach first part of duodenum majority of intestines ovaries gallbladder spleen*
Which structure is retroperitoneal? (only a little bit is in intraperitoneal)
SAD PUCKER Suprarenal Aorta/IVC Duodenum (desc. & transverse) Pancreas Ureters Colon (asc. & desc) Kidneys Esophagus Rectum
What is the difference between the mesentery and the omentum?
Mesentery- Intestines. Suspensory portion (is a double folded peritoneal ligament).
Omentum- stomach. Is something that connects the stomach to something else Lesser omentum =(liver)
Greater omentum-greater curvature of stomach
What term is used to describe the location of organs in the abdominal cavity that have peritoneum only on their anterior surface?
Retroperitoneal
What would you call mesentery that suspends the uterus?
Mesometrium
What is name of the peritoneal lining that extends inferiorly between the bladder and the rectum?
Rectovesical Pouch
What is the difference between the peritoneal cavity and the abdominopelvic cavity?
Peritoneal cavity is a little smaller
What is the name of the part of the liver that is in direct contact with the diaphragm?
Bare area of liver
Ligaments that make up the greater omentum?
Gastrophrenic
Splenic
Colic
Ligaments that make up the lesser omentum?
Hepatoduodenal Hepatogastric
Transtubercular
Cuts through the tubes of the iliac crest.
Interiliac
Cuts through the iliac crest
Transtubercular
Cuts through the tubes of the iliac crest.
Interiliac
Cuts through the iliac crest
How many layers in the mesentery? What are they made of?
2 layers of serous membranes
What is the most superior part of the greater omentum?
Gastrophrenic (attaches stomach to diaphragm)
