What is an open syllable?
Consonant + vowel (ends with vowel sound)
What is a closed syllable?
Consonant + vowel + consonant (ends with consonant sound)
For most words, on what syllable does the accent fall?
The last syllable
When does a consonant have a sheva?
When it does not have a vowel symbol
When is it a silent sheva?
if a short vowel comes before the consonant w/ the sheva
When is it a vocal sheva?
When a short vowel does NOT come before the sheva (a long vowel comes before the sheva or the sheva is at the beginning of a sentence)
If two shevas are in a row, are they silent, vocal, both?
the 1) silent, 2) vocal
When is the sheva its own syllable?
When it is a vocal sheva
When the dagesh is on a consonant that is not a BGDKFT, is it strong or weak?
Always strong
If the dagesh is on a BGDKFT, when is it a weak dagesh?
when the sound before is a consonant or its at the beginning of a sentence, the dagesh is weak
If the dagesh is on a BGDKFT, when is it a strong dagesh?
when the sound before is a vowel, the dagesh is strong
