is a combination of art and sport. It was called competitive ballroom dancing in the past. This goes with partners (male and lady) competing against others partners dancing on the floor at one time. Dance sport provides an avenue to gain discipline of the
body and mind of the dance athletes.
Dance sport
The term dance sport applies to the International Style as well the as American Style of competitive ballroom. It includes the following categories:
Standard and Latin
aka Slow fox carries the spirit of American aristocracy. It is one of the most technical and “flexible” dances. This dance has so many different steps and characteristics, unlike the other dance sport dances.
Foxtrot
this is the first dance of all in the routine of dance sport.
•meaning “to roll or revolve” is a ballroom and folk dance, normally in triple, performed primarily in closed position
It is also considered by some as the “mother of present- day dances” and the “backbone dance” of the ballroom
Waltz
is a classic dance style that is featured in many romantic movies and animated films. It is characterized by sweeping, graceful turns that rotate quickly around the floor.
VIENNESE WALTZ
The partners perform opposite movements. When the lead moves forward, the follower moves backward
Box Step
is a partner dance, and social dance that originated in the 1880s along the Río de la Plata, the natural border between Argentina and Uruguay. It was born in the impoverished port areas of these countries, in neighborhoods which had predominantly African descendants.
Tango
a light-hearted dance of the standard ballroom dances.
