Q

Social pressures in New York

A

There is a great pressure on employment in New York because of the demand for work. New York State is generally considered to be an “employment at will” state, which means that a private sector employer can effectively hire and fire as they please with no legal recourse- even when the discharge is unreasonable. This results in job insecurity and extreme competition. A quarter of workers report high levels of stress
