What is Confidence?
the feeling or belief that one can have faith in or rely on someone or something.
What is perceived competence?
Perceived competence is the ability and skills you think you have
What is self-confidence?
Self-confidence is a feeling of trust in ones abilities, judgments and qualities. (Trust in their ability and strength in a subject)
What is self-efficacy?
Self-efficacy is the strength of ones belief in their ability to complete tasks and finish goals. (belief in their strength and ability)
What is self belief?
Self-belief is confidence in ones abilities (Trusting and believing that you have the ability to succeed and do well in a task)
How does having strong confidence help athletes?
Strong confidence helps athletes remain calm in games and remember game plans, not giving up and staying motivated
What is strong confidence?
Strong confidence is when someone thoroughly believes in their ability to mentally and physically complete a task.
What is low confidence?
Low/ weak confidence is where someone doubts their ability to complete a task and worse Proformance.
How does low confidence impact athletes?
In athletes low confidence causes less coordination and muscle tension from stress and fear.
What are 3 self-confidence strategies?
Affirmation
Sucess & reward
Preparation
What is affirmation?
They are self talk cues, used to change reactions to stressful situations
What is Preparation?
It is a confidence booster as it makes the athlete feel more confidence and ready about what they are about to do.
What is success & reward?
It is an encouragement method by giving athletes rewards if they successfully complete tasks or Proform well.
What is Arousal?
“Arousal is a heightened sense of physical and mental alertness or activation” (Amezdros, et.al., 2018)
“The state if being enthusiastic and mentally and physically ready to compete and perform a task”
How does arousal work?
It ranges in a continuum from low to high and it is a prerequisite for optimal sporting performance.
