LESSON 3 Flashcards
A long, whip-like structure used for movement in some cells, especially in bacteria.
Flagellum
Single-celled, prokaryotic microorganisms with no nucleus and have a variety of shapes.
Bacteria
Single-celled, prokaryotic organisms similar to bacteria but genetically and biochemically different, often found in extreme environments.
Archaea
Organisms with eukaryotic cells, meaning they have a nucleus and other membrane-bound organelles
Eukarya
A unit of genetic regulation in prokaryotes that includes a set of genes controlled by a single promoter.
Operon
Organic molecules, such as fats and oils, that are important for energy storage and making up cell membranes.
Lipids
Organic molecules, like sugars and starches, used for energy and structural support in cells
Carbohydrates
Large, complex molecules made up of amino acids that perform a variety of functions in the body, such as enzymes, structural components, and signaling molecules.
