Lesson 23: Development of Strong Faith Flashcards
Hebrews 11:6
“And without faith,
“And without faith, it is impossible to please God, for whoever would approach him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him”.
What is ‘faith’? Why is it important for Christian living?
Faith is the ‘assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen’.
Faith means acknowledging that God is in controlno matter our circumstances. Without faith, we cannot please God. If we don’t believe in God’s existence, we cannot walk with him.
2) What are three characteristics of those with exemplary faith? Using the life of Abraham, describe how he demonstrated extraordinary faith? Add all the details from Page 114 in book.
He was obedient
He trusted God, despite his circumstances.
He kept his eyes on heavenly things
(examples) His readiness to sacrifice his only son Isaac, when God asked him to do so, even though Isaac was meant to fulfill God’s promise of numerous descendants for Abraham.
He uprooted his whole family and left Ur, where he had lived for many years, even though God promised to give Canaan to Abraham’s offspring, not Abraham himself.
What is the Meaning of Faith? (2 pts) Write about the faith of the following people mentioned in Hebrews 11 (8 pt
The author of Hebrews defines faith as “the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”
By faith, Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than his brother Cain. He believed in God and the burnt offering he made was pleasing to God. God considered him righteous. He died in in a untimely fashion, but his faith spoke for him.
By faith Enoch was taken so that he did not experience death; and “he was not found, because God had taken him.” For it was attested before he was taken away that “he had pleased God.”
By faith Noah, warned by God about events as yet unseen, respected the warning and built an ark to save his household; by this he condemned the world and became an heir to the righteousness that is in accordance with faith.
In the case of Abraham, God promised to make Abraham into great nation and bless him. Abraham along with his wife and nephew left Haran and set out to Canaan. Abraham did not know all the details of what God had in store for him but he obeyed immediately. He did not question God or doubt him. He simply obeyed because he believed God had his best intentions at heart. By faith he received power of procreation, even though he was too old—and Sarah herself was barren—because he considered him faithful who had promised.12 By faith Abraham, when put to the test, offered up Isaac.
