How did the Zhou dynasty rise?
The Zhou gained power when the Shang dynasty lost power because the Shang king only cared about himself and when the Zhou attacked Shang warriors started refusing to fight. People surrendered and the Zhou took control.
What is the Mandate of Heaven?
The right to rule, if the ruler failed to act properly. They lost this right.
How the Zhou dynasty control their large empire?
The Zhou placed family members in charge of individual states or regions.
What are warlords?
military rulers of small states.
Describe the Warring States Period.
Minor battles escalated into a large war-fare. China entered an era of total chaos. Millions of people died.
Describe the family relationships in ancient China?
Older family members had higher power over younger ones.
