Lesson 2: The Periodic Table Flashcards
What information is contained in each square on the periodic table?
atomic number, symbol, average atomic mass, and (sometimes) name.
How are elements arranged on the
periodic table?
Metals, non-metals, metalloids
What are the properties of metals, nonmetals, and metalloids?
Metals are good conductors of heat and electricity, and are malleable (they can be hammered into sheets) and ductile (they can be drawn into wire).
Nonmetals: Nonmetals are generally dull or non-reflective and do not have a metallic luster or conduct electricity and heat.
Metalloids: Metalloids can have a metallic or nonmetallic appearance, they conduct heat and electricity but not as well as metals and are used for semi conductor computer chips.
