Lesson 2 - Quality Managment and Coordination Flashcards
Name Some Insulation Materials Used in Construction.
- Fiberglass Blankets and batts.
- Rigid Boards made from thermoplastics such as polystyrene, polyurethane, or isocyanurate
- Loose Fill of Perlite or vermiculite
- Spray on Foam
An example of thermal expansion
Aluminum Expands at approx. 4 times the rate of masonry. and twice that of concrete.
Metals may buckle or seperate from anchors if details do not allow for movement.
What do expansion joints do?
Allow masonry to move independently of structural steel or concrete frame.
Concrete, Plaster and Masonry all act the same.
They will all crack but that does not mean the integrity of the structure is compromised.
What are control joints?
Are intended weakend joints, in which the cracks are likely to occur. This is in preference then random cracking throughout the structure.
What is PNC?
Prefered Noise Criteria- The Level of Outside Noise which a receiver can tolerate may be expressed as the Preferred Noise Control.
What is STC and IIC?
Sound Transmission Class - method of rating the acoustic efficiency of various wall and floor systems.
The higher the STC rating the more efficient the construction.
IIC - Impact Isolation Class
Also refered to as Impact Noise Rating - Simple Numerical Rating Developed by the Federal Housing Administration to estimate teh impact sound isolation performance of flooring and ceiling.
What types of material are effective for sound absorption?
Light Weight, Porus Materials
(Heavy and impervious materials are effective for sound isolation.
What is NRC?
Noise Reduction Coeficient - Rating that compares absorptive capabilities of acoustical materials.
