New Media
According to the them, New media focuses on the message (i.e. the communication and its practices), the technology (i.e. the medium), and the social context in which is used.
Lievrouw & Livingstone (2002)
These three aspects (message, technology, social context) show up repeatedly in the literature along with other more specific technologies and practices such as:
collaboration, digitalization, telecommunication
Take the temporal approach using the term “Media in transition” to describe a period of time during which a medium is emergent and thus a sort of context to and competitor for the old media.
Gitelman & Pingree (2003)
Defined new media as cultural objects “which are digital computer technology for distribution and exhibition”.
Manovich (2002)

One of the most obvious recent trends. It is the convergence of technology and entertainment.
Convergence of Technology
What is the term used for both technology and entertainment?
Infotainment
With the new media technologies, we have seen a blurring of line among users, developers, distributers, producers, and consumers.
Convergence of Roles
It is digitized content that can be transmitted over the internet or computer networks.
Digital Media
This is seen due to technology. A newspaper must have an online presence and probably a few vlogs.
Convergence of Media
Highly interconnected age; rapid speed of transmission throughout networked society; concept of virality.
Communication
Multiple people of groups interact and share information to achieve common goals.
Collaboration
This is also called crowdsourcing.
Collaboration
A method for harnessing information from a large, diverse group of people.
Crowdsourcing
Sense of the world as a smaller place, democratic and inclusive; great equalizer; levelling of the playing field (Johnson, 2007).
Community
User-generated content; users no longer the passive receiver of the message.
Creativity
Unlike traditional media, it is is transmitted as digital data, which at its simplest involves digital cables or satellites sending binary signals.
Digital Media
Users are free to choose media content to which they want to be exposed, to generate their own content, to comment and to link to other content, to share content with others, and in general, to generate personalized media environments.
Personal Media
Consumers using several media simultaneously.
Convergence of Consumption
