Figurative Meaning

Direct comparison of two unlike things, without the use of like or as
Metaphor
The attribution of human qualities to inanimate objects
Persononification
Exaggeration of Size, Shape, Volume, Expression, etc. for emphasis

Hyperbole
– Used to emphasize the meaning of a sound, word, or
line
Repetition
The repetition of similar initial consonant
Alliteration
The repetition of similar vowel sounds to make an internal rhyme
Assonance
– The repetition of consonant sounds
Consonance
using the right vocabulary, phrasing, and grammar, to reflect the second
layer of meaning that you wish to convey.
Poetic Diction
The attitude of the writer towards the subject or the quality of the speaker’s
voice.
Tone
The overall feeling conveyed by the poem to the reader. It is how the listeners
feel by listening to your tone.
