These are the guidelines people are supposed to follow in their relationship with one another; They are shared rules that specify what is right or wrong and the appropriate and inappropriate behavior.
Norms
Types of Norms:
- Folkways
- Mores
- Laws
The patterns of repetitive behavior become habitual and the conventional part of living.
Folkways
The set of ethical standards and moral obligations as dictates of reason distinguishes humans’ acts as right or wrong or good from bad.
Mores
Two Kinds of Mores:
- Positive Mores / Duty
- Negative Mores / Taboo

Positive Mores / Duty
________ (social prohibition) which refers to societal prohibitions on certain acts which must not be done because they are illegal but unethical and or executed.
Negative Mores / Taboo

legitimate authority.
Laws
These are non-material aspects of culture and embody man’s conception of his physical, social, and cultural world.
Ideas
It refers to the concrete and tangible objects produced and used by man to satisfy his varied needs and wants.
Material Culture
It refers to an object, gesture, sound, color, or design that
represents something “other than itself”.
Symbol
Other Elements of Culture:
- Values
- Technology
- Beliefs
- Artifacts
- Arts
- Traditions
It is anything held to be relatively worthy, important, desirable, or valuable.
