Q

Describe the story of Moses.

A

About 400 years after the covenant of God and Abraham, the Jews found themselves as slavers in Egypt. The Pharaoh had decided to have all firstborn sons killed, so Moses’ mother put Moses in a basket and he was rescued from the river Nile as a baby and brought up in the royal palace. He was chosen by God when he fled to escape being put to death for killing an Egyptian who was mistreating a Jewish slave. God told Moses, via speaking to him through a tree that appeared to be on fire, and told him to tell the Pharaoh to release the Jews. The Pharaoh refused until the final plague, the death of all Egyptian firstborns, and then he finally agreed to let the Jews return to Canaan. They travelled across the Sea of Reeds that God parted for them (3 mil people). Moses then ascended Mount Sinai when they reached it, and came down with two tablets with the 10 commandments inscribed on it. He carried them down the mountains and explained them to the Jews. Moses died in Moab, just before Jews reached the Promised Land of Canaan.
