10
Q

You find that inbound wind correction of a standard hold is 7 degrees left. What should the initial outbound wind correction be? Why?

A

It should be 7 degrees right. On the outbound leg, you’re on the reciprocal heading, so the wind will be coming from the opposite direction.

Q

What is the difference between a Sectional, a TAC, and a WAC?

A

Sectionals use a one to 500,000 scale and are for slow-medium speed aircraft. TACs are only for high-traffic terminal areas and use a scale of one to 250,000 and are very detailed. WACs cover a large area, use a one to 1 million scale and are primarily for fast airplanes.

Q

What chart might you use to plan a long IFR X-C flight that would cross several Low Enroute Charts?

A

You could use the US IFR/VFR Low Altitude Planning Chart. You could also consult high-altitude enroute charts or a WAC

17
Q

What publication gives you the most information about the airports you will be using? How long does this
publication stay current?

A

Chart Supplement w/airport diagrams - updated every 56 days

18
Q

How would you find out if a certain runway or approach might be unusable?

A

NOTAMs

19
Q

Does the FAA publish a user’s guide for aeronautical charts? In lieu of this, when there is a symbol on a chart
that you don’t recognize, how can you figure out what it means?

A

The chart supplement or the legend on the chart itself
