Q
  1. How is the covenant is central to Exodus 19-24? How does the covenant allows us to approach God as King, showing both His distance and His nearness?
A

1) Exo 19-24 is about the covenant under Moses:
a) the law arises out of this covenant, so all the laws derive from covenant
b) covenant ceremony, code, and ratification

2) covenant allows us to approach God because it tells us how to approach God
-must be cleansed, but sacrifices in tabernacle
-must keep our distance, as God is holy

3) Tabernacle:
-stresses God’s distance: different sections, guarded by cherubim with the ark in the Most Holy
-stresses nearness: God is dwelling with Isr

segullah = treasured possession

Exodus 19:5 - God says if Israelites will obey his voice, they will be a treasured possession, holy nation
