When does the contract become void?
when the ruling party fails to maintain control or address the needs of its citizens effectively. This could occur due to internal dissent, economic collapse, or external pressure.
Strengths of a Single Party State
Less conflict about political choices because there are relatively few choices to make
Less complex than multi-party systems or direct democracies.
Can be more efficient compared to other models as decisions can be carried out quickly – less potential conflict/debate between political parties who share many of the same values.
Weaknesses of a Single Party State
Tyranny and/or corruption likely (Tyranny of the minority) as no competition or challenges by other parties
Little choice, little freedom of citizens
No new political parties permitted – little change
No separation of power - Lack of checks and balances
Case Study: North Korea. What does it reveal about the Single Party State system?
